📖| books were a way for you to escape whatever was going on around you.

it was the main reason you ended up even processing your parents divorce in the first place.

it was also the main reason you could ignore all of the comments that were made by your ex best friend, harper, all the time.

you knew the difference between real love and fictional love.

real love wasn’t forever, it didn’t last- and your parents were definitely an example of it.

fictional love was forever, and everytime you read a cheesy rom-com you wanted that love, but it was fictional.

however, your perspective changed once brett holland showed up.

brett holland was your typical popular boy.

football captain, rich, charming, and insanely attractive.

especially because of his dangerous blue eyes and smile that instantly grasped people’s attentions.

you never knew anything beyond that point until you ended up in a situation.

where he was your fake boyfriend.

honestly your not sure when it happened, and your definitely not sure when the two of you became friends, but you did.

and apparently you two had a lot more in common than you thought.

for example, brett had always thought that his parents were made for each other.

that all changed one night as he was eating fast food with you in his car, when he saw his father and a random lady walking together.

he immediately started the car, giving you no explanation and started driving down the highway.

    very fast.

    you had to stop him.

you reached out over the console grabbing his arm, “brett, stop! Pull over!”

he ignored your screaming for a moment before he finally slowed down and pulled over to the side of the road, shoving his face into his hands.

    “What happened?” You ask.

he shakes his head, “I saw my father, with someone who wasn’t my mom.”

oh. Was all you could think.

“I’m so sorry-“ you get cut off.

“Do you have a book?” he asks randomly.

    “What- why?”

“Do you have a book. Yes or no.” he repeats.

you look through your bag and pull a book out.

“Please read to me.” he says.

you’re confused by the whole situation, but he seems so desperate, so you comply.
