The sun had begun to set along the horizon, casted shadows across the canyons, illuminating the already orange landscape in a fiery glow. Shadow was on a lone mission without his partners - Rouge and Omega - and had just finished robbing a bank in Deserted Meadows. He now stood along a street with a revolver in his left hand and a sack of money in his right. There were people attempting to shoot at him, and he fired back while hiding behind wagons and barrels. Shadow wasn't going to leave the area yet, because he was waiting for someone.

His ears perked as he heard a pair of footsteps approach from behind his position behind a wagon, and the outlaw quickly spun around to come face-to-face with the sheriff of this town: Sheriff Sonic Maurice. The hedgehog's ruby eyes narrowed, and he shifted on his feet to face the latter, clutching his gun at his side. Shadow was wondering when he'd come.

The only reason Shadow was doing this was to seek the thrill of embarrassing the sheriff by outrunning him. Anybody would do that towards an arrogant, annoying bastard like Sonic if they had the ability to - which Shadow owned.

So far, he's managed to leave before Sonic could come into distance with him. But now, he wanted to face him head-on.
