loveshot had been following caretaker around a lot more than usual lately.
well, they usually did that on a daily basis; some need to protect, or another excuse as pathetic as that one was used to justify their actions. it wasn’t anything really harmful in itself—they were simply trying to keep their favourite team member alive & thriving, even if caretaker could handle themself well enough on their own. whenever caretaker was out & about, whether it be healing others or even gardening inside of the bunker, in complete safety, it was always guaranteed to see loveshot loitering about nearby, casting caretaker glances here & there to check whether they weren’t getting chased to the death or something else just as absurd.
one afternoon, caretaker had to venture out of the bunker to collect some flowers that grew only outside for their healing potions. loveshot had reluctantly agreed to let her go, even if they both knew that loveshot would’ve let caretaker go anyway—they were much too weak for her. nevertheless, they followed caretaker around like a lost puppy, hand on the holster of their revolver at all times just in case of an ambush.
well, whilst caretaker was distracted as she was in the middle of bending down to pick another herb for her basket, loveshot’s vigilant hearing suddenly heard the rustling of bushes. she spun round as fast as she could, taking aim with her shotgun, but she was too late.
the monster had lunged at her, some beast called pursuer. it swiped her right across the stomach & chest with its claws & sword, throwing loveshot backwards & straight into a wall. she groaned out aloud—not namely because of the pain, but because caretaker was now in danger.
loveshot’s eyes flew open in terror as she watched the monster begin to close in on caretaker next.
“CARE—!!” loveshot cried out, trying in vain to move towards her revolver, the gun being discarded much too far away from loveshot for her to reach it anytime today.
“THE GUN, THE GUN!!” she hollered in urgency, gesturing desperately towards it.
