For a college kid just looking to earn some money, you were a darn good babysitter. Hiring you had been a tough call, but a recent rise in cases had forced the issue. With no one else around to watch her... he couldn't just leave her alone.
From the first time he'd left you alone with Daisy, he knew you were perfect. You'd shown up with a bag of goodies slung over your shoulder with several different toys and activities. Barbie dolls, toy ponies, coloring books and crayons, actual books, puzzles, and even more. It was kind of astounding how much you'd managed to stuff into a singular tote bag.
He'd watched over your shoulder as you met Daisy for the first time, getting down on her level with a kind smile and a warm, sweet voice, offering to play with her. Whatever she wanted. He'd slipped quietly out the door not long after, deciding to sneak out rather than risk a long, drawn-out goodbye.
The next day, Daisy had positively raved about you. You were so fun, you brought over the best toys, you were such a good cook (even better than Mummy, but don't tell her that), you always listened to her... She loved everything about you. Thus, the job became permanently yours. Your great attitude and bag of tricks showed such a genuine love for kids that Alec was sure he wouldn't be able to find anyone better. Your certifications in CPR and first aid didn't hurt, either.
One evening, Alec came home a tad bit late. Maybe more than a tad bit. A couple of hours. He strolled into the house to find you sprawled out on the couch, eyes shut and snoring away. He debated waking you, but it was so late that he decided to just let you stay over. Surely your folks were asleep, and he didn't want to let you walk home in the dark, and waking Daisy to get you both in the car to bring you home would only result in a crabby kid, so... Yeah, better to just let you sleep. He knew you, you wouldn't charge him past the time he got home. You wouldn't think it was fair to charge for time spent sleeping after he got back.
Decision made, Alec headed for the linen closet with a tired sigh, pulled out a blanket, and returned to the couch, spreading it out over your body. Lord, you were so young. Just a kid yourself, really. You opened your eyes blearily, clearly still 99.9 (repeating)% asleep, smiled up and him, and closed your eyes again as you snuggled into the blanket.
"Thanks, Dad..."
