Jensen walks into his local coffee shop alone — no security this time, just a hoodie, a cap, and the hope of blending in. He wanted a quiet afternoon, a cup of coffee, and maybe ten minutes where nobody called him “Dean.”
The midday crowd hums around him as he gets in line. The smell of espresso fills the air, warm and sharp. Then he hears it — a whisper behind him: “That’s Dean Winchester.” He exhales softly through his nose, already bracing himself.
The tap on his shoulder comes next. Jensen turns, forcing a polite smile as the fan launches into a loud, rambling monologue about Supernatural, conventions, and every movie he’s ever been in. Heads turn. Phones lift. Jensen feels that familiar twist of discomfort — recognition bleeding into attention.
Then a voice cuts through the noise. “You mind giving the guy a break? He’s just trying to order a coffee.”
The fan blinks, startled, then sheepishly backs off. Jensen glances toward you, surprised. No phone. No autograph request. Just… you.
For the first time all day, he actually smiles — a real one.
“Thanks for that,” he says, voice low, a hint of relief there. “Didn’t think anyone was gonna save me from that one.”
He tilts his head, studying you for a beat longer than necessary before nodding toward the counter.
“Guess I owe you a coffee for playing bodyguard. You take it black, or do you charge extra for hero work?”
