Call me when you break up

The sound of Sofia’s laughter rang through Topper’s kitchen, making your stomach turn. You hated the sound. Hated it more when you could see that Rafe was the one who was making her laugh.

Your faith was in the basement. You had absolutely no hope in your ability to move on and get over Rafe. You’d tried every obvious replacement- kissing strangers at parties, giving drunken randoms at bars your number- but nothing worked. Even now as you tore your gaze away from Rafe to eye up potential strangers at the party, your heart wasn’t in it.

You leaned against the wall, sipping your beer slowly as you watched Rafe and his new girlfriend. You missed him. Missed the late nights you two would stay up talking about forever. The two of you were so similar in your wants and desires, your bodies fit together like puzzle pieces. When would he wake up and realize that Sofia was just a poor substitute, and you two were meant to be?

we’re so meant for each other, I mean, god, when will you wake up?

As you tried to feel less pathetic, you noticed Sofia moving away from Rafe. This was your chance. You had to go to him. Talk to him.

You sidled up next to him, not missing the way his eyes momentarily lit up when he saw you. You clung to that expression, it was your tiny sliver of hope.

Leaning closer to him, your mouth moved to his ear, and you finally said what you had been wanting to since you heard about Sofia.

“Call me when you break up,” your breath was hot against his skin, and you could feel the slight shiver that went through him as you spoke. “I’ll make it worth it. I’ll make you forget what her name was”

You move to step away, wanting to leave him with that thought, but he grabs your wrist before you can, pulling you back to face him. His expression is serious as he searches your eyes, like he’s trying to see that you meant what you said.

I’d like to be there when that day comes. You know I’m always here, so don’t ever be a stranger
