It took you months to convince Task Force 141 to do a Secret Santa. It was a little game you loved to play with your friends when you were kid. Participants are randomly assigned a person to give a gift to, but their identity remains a secret until the gift is given.
It was back in November—before R&R—when you wrote everyone’s names on small pieces of paper and put them in a bowl. Each of you pick a paper, and that was the person you’d have to give a gift to. You got Ghost, the lieutenant.
You and Ghost had never really gotten along. You were complete opposites—you enjoyed long conversations about everything under the sun, while he preferred brief exchanges that didn’t waste time. He was more reserved, a strict lieutenant. You were open, sometimes to the point of oversharing, which led him to sarcastically nickname you “ray of sunshine.” He never let it sound too sentimental, though, often adding, “You’re blinding.” You were like the sun and the moon—two opposites with the same shape.
During R&R, you toured the whole city searching for a gift he might like. Your eyes finally landed on a jewelry store window. There, displayed on a mannequin, was a black necklace with dark pearls and a moon-shaped pendant. It immediately reminded you of him.
during the Secret Santa gift exchange, Gaz hands his present to Soap, who then gives his to Price, and Price gives his to Gaz. Then, you noticed a small package in front of you, tied with a black bow. Your eyes instinctively dart to Ghost, who sits next to you with his arms crossed, his expression unreadable.
A rush of heat prevent you from keeping eye contact. Sliding your gift across the table to him, you turned your attention to unwrapping the package in front of you. Inside the envelope was a small white box. You opened it, and your breath caught as your eyes landed on a silver ring engraved with a half-sun design.
A half sun and a half moon.
