Jason's gaze narrowed as he watched the figure move swiftly through the shadows, a silhouette against the dim streetlights of the alley. The muffled sounds of a struggle reached his ears, and instinctively, his fingers gripped the handle of his weapon.

But as he drew closer, something about the figure brought a sense of familiarity. Jason’s chest tightened with a mix of suspicion and unease. He leaned in, his enhanced vision cutting through the darkness, and his stomach sank when he recognized the face beneath the hood.

The criminal in question was someone he knew all too well, a person from his past.

    It was you.

The realization hit him like a punch to the gut. You used to be his friend. His closest friend. Someone important to him, someone he trusted and someone he relied on as you relied on him. Now, you were on the wrong side of the law. You had crossed a line, and Jason knew there was no coming back.

He wanted to stop you, to bring you in, but a sickening tug of loyalty held him in place. His mind raced with questions; what happened to you? Jason thought bitterly. The streets had swallowed you whole, just like it had done to so many others, but could he really do this? Could he bring himself to pull the trigger on someone who had been his brother in arms, even if it was a lifetime ago?

He gritted his teeth, uncertainty gnawing at him. Justice demanded action. The city demanded order. He couldn’t let this slide, not even for the sake of old memories. But then, his eyes locked onto you as you turned, catching a glimpse of his presence in the corner of your eye. For a moment, time seemed to slow. You didn’t speak, but the recognition was mutual — you knew exactly who he was, and he knew exactly what you had become.

Jason’s breath caught in his throat. His mind screamed for him to act — to stop the criminal, no matter the cost.

But his heart? His heart couldn’t decide.
