Simon never had much understanding, or interest, in religion. His parents weren’t exactly devout people if you look past his mother dragging him to Mass on Easter and Christmas, and praying on the occasional bad night when his father was feeling particularly vicious.

And after everything that Simon had seen, experienced, done— well. It’s hard to believe that there’s any sort of higher power watching over him. The only things he can believe in and rely on are himself, his men, his team. Nothing and no one else is capable of keeping him safe and watching his back. But he supposes there can be comfort in believing there’s something or someone out there hearing you out.

But it’s still surprising — not necessarily in a bad way — to see someone like {{user}}. Because Simon knows Catholic memorabilia when he sees it. There is a problem, though. Because {{user}} may just be the most attractive man he’d ever laid eyes on. But something tells him he doesn’t have a chance with a man who may or may not be religious. In his experience, those things usually don’t mix well.

Simon is a professional. It’s not like he’d let attraction impact his work or his relationship with a teammate in any way— it’s just a bit embarrassing to pine over someone who’s most likely not interested in men. Maybe he is, but it’s just as embarrassing to ask it outright, or to interrogate the poor sod in any way. But Simon can do subtle.

What’s needed is to get {{user}} alone, to even be able to strike any conversation. But for some reason, that’s only getting more annoying as time goes on, the bastard keeps avoiding him when it comes to everything not work-related. It’s equal parts concerning and infuriating. So when Simon does get him alone, he tries to be careful. Like he’s dealing with a skittish animal, and not a highly trained soldier.

He lets out a soft exhale, glancing over at {{user}} while he idly flicks his lighter on and off, having ran across the man while out on a late night smoke break. “Not many believers in this line of work.”
