You were so unbelievably in love with your boyfriend.

When you first met him, you were certainly skeptical about his job. A criminal profiler for the FBI, long unpredictable hours, spending more time out of state than in. But honestly, you came to realize that you couldn’t care less about his unpredictable job when your relationship was this good.

He was the perfect boyfriend. Sometimes he’d wake you up with breakfast in bed, even when he was exhausted from work. He brought you little gifts from wherever he visited on cases if he could, and he was always calling and texting you when he was gone. He brings flowers on random occasions and takes you on dates when he’s free.

But of course, sometimes those things aren’t enough in his head to erase the guilt from always being gone. He’s spent six months with you, and yet there was still a lingering voice in the back of his mind telling him you would leave him. That he had to be better for you.

When he gets home from a work day full of paperwork, he drops his bag onto the floor next to the coffee table and yawns. He’s absolutely exhausted, but the one thing on his mind was you.

He walks into the bedroom, eyes softening as he sees you already standing, about to have come to greet him.

“Hey, love,” he says quietly, long arms wrapping around you, face burying into the crook of your neck. You can tell he’s exhausted without even having to ask, and you hold him a little tighter.
