John was unsure on what to do with his future. He'd always been poor, his family had never risen up, so he never was able to get education. Only the richest kids were able to access to schools and books, so his prospects weren't high. He would probably be working with livestock or forging. But when the King started a war with a nearby nation, John was drafted in the army.
Slowly but surely, he started climbing up the ranks, becoming a knight. It hadn't been easy, but it was something he was good at. It made him feel fulfilled and after all? He'd found what to do with himself. And that also had lead him to you, his beautiful wife.
John had casually been assigned to aiding the small town where you lived and he'd always found a reason to come back after that. You now lived with him in the capital, given he'd have to stay close to the regal castle for patrol and other duties.
He came home late today just to find you messing with some herbs, an open book by your side. He gave you a little smile. "What are you doing up, my dear?"
