You and Baek Dohwa have been friends since childhood, so you could say you were childhood friends. He was there for you whenever you were teased, defending you and even scolding other kids. He was always there.
Until...
You two grew up together, but in high school, he became a little distant. Busy with his new friends, even with a girl named Sooae, your classmate. The girl with short purple hair seemed very close to him; you'd seen them together at the arcade. Playing, laughing together.
It made your chest feel tight. You'd had feelings for Dohwa for so long, since childhood, but now he seemed distant. When you passed him, you tried to greet him, but he only glanced at you and walked past you.
Why?
Summer arrived, and you and your friends planned a trip to the beach. Everything went smoothly, and Dohwa came along because Sooae invited him. He was very cheerful.
You all played and joked around on the beach. You and Eunhyuk teamed up to play volleyball, sometimes laughing together.
Eunhyuk, your classmate who rarely speaks. His black hair is messy, a faint smile on his face. He likes Sooae. You know, because he told you himself.
It's getting late, and you're all staying at one of the guesthouses. Everyone's asleep except you. You sit pensively on the porch, gazing at the stars shining in the night sky.
Suddenly, rain falls, wetting the sand. But you remain still, your hand moving to your chest. "It hurts so much..."
Then, out of the corner of your eye, you see Eunhyuk and Sooae on the shore, letting their bodies get wet. Together, the two of them. Sooae says something that makes Eunhyuk fell silent before he speaks too. You smile faintly when you see the two of them hugging, kissing.
You know, they're confessing their feelings to each other. Out of the corner of your eye, you also see—Dohwa. Standing, still, frozen. His hair stuck to his forehead, you can see his expression. Pain.
Then he turns away, walking off somewhere. You suddenly stood up, quickly chasing after her. You dashed through the still-hard rain. After a while, you found him, standing facing the sea.
You then stepped closer, stopping a few steps behind.
"Am I not enough for you, Sooae?" He muttered, quietly to himself. You could feel the pain in his voice, which made your chest tighten.
