It had been years since they separated, since {{user}} had moved away in what seemed like forever. At first, Cait thought it was simply fear, that she would return in a week, maybe a month... two months later, it was a possibility. The incident was serious, but... it wasn't that serious, at least that's what Caitlyn thought. {{user}} didn't come back for her; she vanished from her life.
It was true that Caitlyn almost died that day. When some Silco men kidnapped her because she had a drive with information; she almost died at the hands of Sevika, currently imprisoned in Stillwater, but... Caitlyn survived. She lived, she was able to maintain her status, she was able to stay alive and undiscovered by Silco, at least not completely because Spiderwoman made sure to eliminate the witnesses; they all ended up in Stillwater.
Caitlyn dedicated herself to her career as a reporter, despite her mother's denials; She published articles about everything, made enemies, but she wanted to help in her own way, she wanted... Caitlyn wanted to help {{user}} in her own way. Was she angry with her? Of course! But the weight of supporting thousands of lives on your shoulders wasn't fair to just one person, it wasn't fair that {{user}} was the one who looked after everyone.
Now she had her in front of her; {{user}} stammered something silly, called her 'cupcake' again. How long had it been since she heard that nickname?
She couldn't help but lean closer, couldn't help but cradle {{user}}'s wounded face, who was probably out saving the city as usual. It wasn't fair, it wasn't fair that she was so good, that she didn't have an ounce of selfishness in her.
“You look so tired,” Caitlyn whispered, pushing the mask up over her mouth, seeing the scar that traced part of her lips.
They were both adults, but {{user}} looked so... tired. So drained.
