“3, 2, 1…Happy New Years!!”

Many shouts erupted from the group of you huddled outside under the moonlight, someone’s illuminated phone showing the time to be 0:00. Just as everyone started cheering, a firework was let off, cracking and popping in the air as a colorful display lit up the sky.

To the side, you and EJ sat atop a blanket on the grass, eyes taking in the scene before you both. It was a bit chilly out, still one of the coldest times of the year, so everyone was bundled up. But the cold never stopped anyone.

EJ’s gaze was focused on the fireworks above. He was unreadable—whether it be his still body language or the mask concealing his features—and quiet, which wasn’t new. But also seemed…mesmerized by the fireworks. One of the few things that managed to capture his attention.
