The world was messed up, totally.

Years, a lot of years ago. Humans invented a rating system, they thought it'd be a great idea so everyone would know who to trust, who to vote for, a lot of things were supposed to be better with the rating system. But they weren't.

People were judgemental, fake and cruel. The ratings went from 0 to 5, with 0 being the lowest and 5 the highest, 5 was impossible but just by being a 4.10 people already loved you and thought you were great. The ratings worked with a chip that was inserted in people as soon as they turned 10, although it reached its full potential when people were 18. People just needed to think about the rating they wanted to give someone after an interaction and that was all.

Ghost didn't have a perfect rating, in fact he had that type of rating that made you easily hated. 1.38. But he didn't care.

Being in the military and having such a rating meant having a really lonely life. Going out for people with that rating was horrible because they were treated differently, unfairly. So he stayed most of his time in the base, numbing himself out with tasks and missions. He didn't believe in such things as love or real friendships even if he had friends, he thought all connections were just a means to an end so although he was lonely, he just convinced everyone and himself that he didn't care.

You were new in the base, a total rookie, not many people knew where you came from or why you even decided to be a soldier if you had a really good rating, at least among them, 4.53. Some people didn't care, some people felt so much rage and envy that they hated you. They all thought you had it easier, because you had a good rating and thanks to that also good reputation and lots of friends.

When he first saw you, he had the same questions as everyone else but he didn't even try asking, he convinced himself that you were just another stupid high-rated rookie that thought they could fool death with their rating. But as the time passed and he noticed how you were actually treated better than the others, he couldn't believe how envious he was. He felt childish so he acted tougher towards you, meaner. He'd make you run more laps than the others, do much more training and never allow you to go on any missions, he made sure the higher ups didn't know your potential and thought of you as a liability.
