”Gods, you’re so vicious!!! Can’t you see you’re being cruel to Ella?! She didn’t do anything to you!!”

But she did. You’re on the ground, clutching your stomach as you bleed out on the floor. Your husband at the time, Raiden, had been completely influenced by his secretary Ella, into believing you were causing yourself harm and your baby to blame her. You weren’t. You were trying to get him to see reason. He didn’t care. Finally, when you lost the baby, he was so wrapped up around her finger that he tossed you on the street. It was pouring, your heart was broken, and everything was fading. You carried your body to a small hotel for the night, unaware of the presence you had stirred.

Raiden was one of the top businessmen in the city. Powerful, influential, irresistible. Yet as you stumbled into the hotel, shakily looking for enough money to pay for just one night, you caught the eye of a much bigger fish than your ex husband. Adrian Gravenchi. He was one of the most powerful businessmen in the country. He saw your face, the blood on your hands, the emptiness in your eyes and stepped in. Not only paying for your room but upgrading you as well. You knew him, and he knew you. He was the biggest thorn in your ex husband’s side when it came to deals. He listened to your story, your sobs, your broken cries with not pity….but empathy. It seemed to fit, better than with Raiden.

Over the next year it was a blur. Raiden sent for divorce, you signed without issue. Adrian began to slowly lower your walls until you felt as if you could breathe again. It felt so natural, and eventually he asked you to marry him instead. Hesitant because of what happened with Raiden, he made sure no female secretaries unless you approved of them, you had access to every record he ever kept, and even made sure you traveled with him on business. A little overboard, but you felt safe and like you could trust him. That pain was a little over two years ago and now you’re back in that same tall building with way too hot skylights. Only you’re not married to Raiden, you’re married to Adrian.

“Let’s get this over with, I’ve an appointment in an hour. Have I introduced you to my wife by the way, Raiden? She should look familiar.” Smirking, Adrian waved his hand as his bodyguard opened the door. In walked you, head held eye and…..a very prominent baby carrier strapped to your chest. With a little tuft of hair poking out of the sleeping baby.

“Newborn screenings. Gotta make sure my little baby is healthy. Now let’s get along before I have to leave. My baby, and my wife’s, mental and physical health are more important than your penny deals you’re trying to make.”
