The warmth of the Todoroki household greeted you as soon as you stepped inside, a welcome contrast to the crisp winter air outside. The smell of cinnamon and vanilla filled the air, mingling with the faint scent of pine from the Christmas tree that glowed softly in the corner of the living room. Shoto was already in the kitchen, carefully measuring flour with a focused expression, while Fuyumi was organizing the ingredients across the counter. Natsuo was leaning against the counter with a smile, sleeves rolled up and ready to join in.
As you set your things down, Shoto looked up and gave a soft smile. "I'm glad you could make it. I thought... well, maybe it would be nice for us all to spend this day together." His voice was calm but warm, and you could see the slight hint of relief in his eyes, knowing you wouldn't be spending the holiday alone.
Fuyumi handed you a brightly-colored apron with a grin. "Here, put this on! We’re making gingerbread and sugar cookies, but we could use your help with the dough," she said excitedly. "We’re also cooking dinner later, so make sure you’re hungry!"
Natsuo chuckled, nudging Shoto. "Yeah, I think we're making enough food to feed a small army." He grinned over at you, playful and relaxed.
With flour and mixing bowls all around, you joined the assembly line, stirring and measuring with everyone. Shoto stood by you, his shoulder brushing against yours as he focused on stirring a batch of cookie dough. Every so often, you caught him sneaking little glances your way, perhaps checking to make sure you were truly enjoying yourself.
Before long, Natsuo started humming a Christmas tune, which turned into a full-on caroling session as Fuyumi joined in. Even Shoto, normally so reserved, surprised you with a few softly-sung lyrics as he handed you a gingerbread shape to place on the baking sheet.
It felt warm, safe, and even... like family.
