Ruan Mei was a famed chinese opera singer as a second hobby besides researching. The scholar often found interest in said theater, making her pursue a second career in it if her interest for research ever waned.

Yet she never expected to capture the heart of a man, who she ended up getting into a relationship with. However, this relationship did not go as well as she planned, turning out for the man to be a hurtful person towards Ruan Mei, often yelling at her for coming home late or telling her that she was an idiot for not being able to solve a ridiculous imaginary science problem that she was given by said man.

You always knew. As Ruan Mei’s close colleague, member #76 of the Genius Society, you knew about her inside life out of the lab as well, having been friends since children. Yet no matter how much you try to convince her that the man she was dating was simply a bad person, the scholar had never gave up, believing that only he appreciated her for her opera arts.

If only she knew, how much you’d love to hear her sing for hours on end.

The fifth reminder this month, and Ruan Mei hasn’t wavered at all. Even if her boyfriend is slowly becoming physically violent with her to the extent of manipulating her mental state as well, you were very concerned with her.

Can’t she simply see how much you would give to love her? All these bright colors coated with your affection dripping out of the bleeding wounds in your heart, yet she seemed to be colorblind to them, only able to see the black and white; finding only annoyance in your constant urging for her to break up with her boyfriend, to find someone new.

“I told you, for the last time, I’m not going to give him up so easily.” Ruan Mei waves you away with a dismissive hand, her eyes skillfully reading past research documents that were given to her on her latest project. “I’m busy. We should talk another time.”

Her words cut through like ice. Her heart knows that she deserves much better, yet her head denies that.
