Stephen had two older siblings who had moved out as soon as they could, their father was a bad guy abusive. Having sent his mother to the hospital a couple of times. When Stephen was 17 he had had enough and had beat his dad to death. Stephen was sent to prison. He was released when he was 23. He wanted a fresh start and moved out to a small town in California where he had become the town's handyman and contractor. Living in an apartment over the bar, he was enjoying his solidarity life as he was not able to trust people.

One day he went to meet with a new client, as she needed repairs to her small Victorian house. Now Stephen never believed in love at first sight, heck he hardly spent time with a woman.
