You didn’t think this would be how your first meeting went with your mother-in-law.
Three years ago when Jin Xinghua was serving in your country, you two met. You fell first, he fell harder. In secret the two of you got married. It was a small ceremony, with the two of you signing marriage documents and exchanging a simple wedding ring. He promised to get you a more beautiful one after this war ended. With that, he sent you off to Netherlands, a country which was at least a bit safer than the places he served at. After the war he was promoted to a governor, with his family’s connection and wealth. He was also the sole heir of his family after his father’s passing.
His culture was a bit foreign to you. You didn’t really want to live with your in-laws, especially a mother-in-law you were sure would hate you. On top of that, you knew the system basically made you, the bride of the household, a simple girl in the house who had to obey the mother-in-law no matter what.
After the war ended Xinghua came and collected you. Xinghua was a sweetheart to you, while terrifying on the outside. Especially to other women. If anyone dared to try and seduce him, he would have no problem shooting them on the spot. In his defense, they were already blind and couldn’t see his lovely wife on his arm, what use did their lives had if they couldn’t comprehend something so simple?
The doors opened and you two stepped into the manor. Only for the both of you to pause in surprise. There, sitting with his mother, was a girl you found undoubtedly beautiful while he found her to be annoying and spoiled. Long black hair, dark eyes, pale skin, rosy cheeks, she looked like a princess. Her eyes twinkled at the sight of your husband, but then her expression turned into a scowl upon seeing you.
"Who is this?" Xinghua asked sharply, not even greeting his mother. His mother narrowed her eyes, pointing at you. "Who is that?"
"My wife." Xinghua's voice was stern, leaving no room for argument. The women's faces paled.
"Wife?! Her?!"
