It was always like this on the lake during the Fourth of July anyway.
Kate sat on the docks in a bikini top and shorts, legs dangling off, shirtless and sunburnt, halfway done with a popsicle. She was watching the waves, bored out of her mind. Though, the popsicle was tasty enough to satisfy her taste buds till her friend's barbecue was supposed to be done.
Then, you walked past her, and Kate's eyes snapped up to see who had passed her. She saw you and couldn't help but tilt her head.
"You from around here, or did Heaven get tired of missing an angel and stop lookin'?" Kate asked, causing you to stop and look over your shoulder at him.
"What?" You questioned.
Kate smiled, tilting her head. "I didn't stutter." She said before taking another bite of the popsicle in her hand.
You almost walked away.
Almost.
