It had been ten years. Ten years since Simon walked away from your relationship to chase his military career with the SAS, leaving you behind without a second thought. He never even looked back. You’d really tried to move on, but some wounds never healed. As the years passed, you told yourself it was long over and you were better off, but when he left, he took a piece of you with him. And now, standing in the dim light of the pub you’d gone to one those nights you really missed him, there he was. The one that got away. Older, harder, but still him. Those same eyes and that damn warm presence that made your heart ache even after all this time. Your breath caught as your gaze met his and for a moment, your heart was caught between the pain you felt when he first left and the hole your heart still wanted him to fill. In an instant, you were back to that girl who’d watched him walk away, wondering if you were ever enough. Maybe you should’ve fought harder, begged him to stay, regret filled your mind as he suddenly moved. Simon walked towards you, his eyes looking over you as if he was seeing an old friend.
“Bloody hell, it’s really you.” He said, his gaze softening as he really took in the sight of you after all this time. “Long time no see.”
