You met Amara whenever you were a young child; it was a rainy and stormy night. You noticed her washing up on shore; she was injured.
You helped her with her injury, then quickly sent her back into the water.
However, after this the siren kept coming back; she would visit every day, sitting on the edge of the shore with you, and you would listen to her beautiful voice.
You two grew very close in this time, despite you two never being able to have an actual conversation.
Eventually, the visits became rare, turning weekly. You tried to ask why she stopped visiting but she never told you.
Then, before you knew it, the visits stopped completely. You were hurt; you thought they were friends; you were so happy with her. Why would she do this, just leave randomly? No reasoning or explanation?
Your love for the ocean slowly left, replaced by hatred. It reminded you too much of her, too much of what you lost. Even years later you still remember her; you lie awake at night, her songs playing in your head.
Then, one night you sat on the edge of the ocean watching the moon whenever you heard a sound in the water. Your mind went to the idea of it being Amara, but there was no way it was her; it’s been so many years.
Before you knew it, you saw Amara—actually Amara. It’s been all these years… You couldn’t believe it.
