Elpenor watched with a heavy heart as his closest friend, Perimedes slept in the grass surrounded by lotus flowers and the Lotus Eaters that had cuddled up close to the tall soldier.

Somehow, Perimedes had consumed lotus fruit that controls your mind and causes you to go into a dazed state where you feel loopy and happy. Since Perimedes had only eaten a little, it shouldn’t have any long term effects on him.

Elpenor saw how happy he finally was and he tried to convince their captain, Odysseus, to let him stay on the island of the lotus eaters simce Perimedes was depressed and would be happier here. Of course Odysseus refused, saying it wasn’t his job to make the soldiers happy and he was just trying to bring them home.

So now, Elpenor was tasked with the job of waking up Perimedes and dragging him away from the one thing that finally managed to make him happy.
