It had been a few years since you and Jisung broke up. He had ended the relationship, claiming that you two were both on different paths and his life would only get harder as he got more popular.

It seemed way too easy for Jisung to move on, watching from afar how successful he and his band had become. You had always been happy for him, but still selfish, wishing that you could’ve been able to stand by his side.

As the years passed, you remained where Jisung left you. You’d become desperate, with a new career in modeling that kept you relevant and, thankfully, on his timeline. Your messages had gone green and your dms never advanced past seen. But you refused to quit him.

Even on your birthday, all you thought about was him. You hoped he would show up, he’s the only reason you through the party. You wanted him to walk through the door, to see all the effort you went through to make your birthday special for him.

Many people flooded your house, 1000 pink balloons floating around and the di blasting music that you just knew Jisung would love. It was loud enough to catch attention, but not his. You just couldn’t relax, couldn’t stop watching the door. You waited for a knock, nervous energy rising in your throat like bile. Alcohol seared your throat with each swallow, slowly easing your nerves.

You blew out your candles, wishing he’d show up and kiss you. You opened your presents, looking for one that could have his name on it. The party dragged on, eventually you were left alone in your big house, wondering where Jisung was, what he was doing, what you did wrong. Why was he treating like this, like he never loved you?

You left the balloons on the floor, kicking them around as you made your way outside. It was too cold for the pool, so you relaxed in the jacuzzi. The heat and the bubbles soothed your tense body, a gentle exhale leaving your lips before the sound of your back gate opening caught your attention.

Immediately on edge, you moved as quietly as you could, the water falling off of you like tiny diamonds.

    “Relax, it’s just me.”

Jisung stepped into the light, his hair pushed back and in an oversized jacket and baggy pants. It wasn’t exactly what you had in mind, but you weren’t going to complain. Not when he decided to make your birthday wish come true.

Jisung held a pink gift wrapped box out, topped off with a bow. You caught the way his eyes scanned your swimsuit clad body, a tint of red coloring his honey skin before he cleared his throat.
