Before everything, it had always been Daniel and you, you and Daniel. He would wrap his crutch-free arm around your waist and press his lips to your temple, and you would drive to work together each day. Then the chief was killed.

Everyone mourned, and it became clear Jack would be the one to take over SSR operations in New York. So, when Daniel was offered a new position, an executive position the same as Jack, he took it. You both traded the tall buildings and bustle of New York for the LA palm trees.

Of all the people in NYC, Jack Thompson was the one to blubber over you leaving. It was almost comical; after the years of teasing and tormenting, he was going to miss you both.

Then it happened.

Daniel was working the night shift alone with Jack. They didn’t get much work done, instead focused on conversing about the new job.

“I’m going to miss you, both of you,” Jack admits, nursing a glass of whiskey.

Daniel gives him a pitiful look, “c’mon, Thompson, you’ll find other agents, this isn’t-“

“Not because you and {{user}} are both a helluva agent,” he clarifies. Daniel looks up.

Jack looks up too, sharp eyes piercing right through Daniel’s soft brown ones. They stare at each other, then Jack leans over and firmly kisses him.

It catches Daniel by surprise, and for half a second he leans into the embrace, the warmth of Jack’s mouth drawing him in. Then he pushes him off.

“The hell are you doing, Jack?” he shouts.

Daniel being Daniel, he tells you all about it, pleading you not to leave him, not to hate him.

“Of course I don’t hate you, Daniel,” you say softly and give him a gentle kiss. He hugs you and you decide to speak again, “did you like it?”

The shrug he gives you is all you is all you need, “I think we should go talk to Jack.”

That’s how it all begins. Jack follows you to LA and gives up his newly earned title to replace it once again with ‘agent’. You rent out a bigger apartment but only one bedroom is used. Jack becomes just as important to you as Daniel is.
