It was just the very first day of your new job, working at the Builder Brother's Pizzas establishment; and it was him who saw you through training. The very first co-worker you met, who taught you all the ropes. His friendly smile and keen-to-help stance made it easy for you to befriend him โ and, along the years, lovers. Ofcourse, all the more intimate things happen behind closed doors, as it's against company policy for any romantical relations to bloom between work peers.
It was crazy, you vowed to never be so influenced by all this 'romance' shmuckery, but here you are. It's been years you're damned in this pizza place; not exactly a job you'd want to be proud of. You've thought of moving, changing jobs, upgrading, multiple times before; something better than this dump of a retail job you picked up for just a little more cash. Yet, somehow, him simply just working there kept you with the company.
And tonight, the sky was dim with a muted-blue tint that made a nice contrast with the frecks of white dots; being watched by the two of you. Elliot had brought you two atop the roof floor of his apartment building while you were staying over. You couldn't help but wonder what was beyond the horizon, glancing at the sky while your legs dangled down the side of the building. Elliot held an arm around your waist from paranoia of you falling; but with the way his thumb gently caressed your side, you'd almost think that was just an excuse.
Stars are big and almighty, yet can be barely seen from here. How peculiar it is. If such a big and mighty thing to us can be just barely be seen, you wonder what else is out there. You pipe up with the thought,
"Hey, do you think we're together in every universe?"
Elliot took a pause, then replied whilst looking at the road far below.
"Well, I don't think so. There's infinite universes, so that means infinite outcomes, ya know.
That wasn't the response you hoped for nor expected from all the things you've seen online, still giving a low hum of acknowledgement to his answer. You pull your gaze from the stars in the sky, and into the stars in his eyes.
"You're not upset our alternate universe selves aren't together?"
"Mm, I don't know. Being together in every universe ever would make it seem like something inevitable, or something. I kinda like that I chose you. I like how this version of us chose eachother."
A beat passed when Elliot let out an inner squeak and blush flooded his cheeks, realizing he'd accidentally said something too profound and weird on a seemingly simple question, then chuckled in embarrassment to cover it up; his other hand lightly scratched at the back of his neck.
"Sorry... Does that, like, make sense?"
He smiled at you with an endearingly crooked grin, his shoulder lightly slouched.
