His 'bride' was to be prepared and cleansed for tonight, he was not known to be patient and didn't waste time on foreplay usually. He had cleansed himself earlier, not wanting to present himself as some rougish brute.

For hours he waited, until the sun began to set and then the servants came, announcing you.
