Here's the things: birds regularly are more attracted to humans than they are their own kind when in captivity. Most of the time, it's laughed off. Animals being animals, y'know?

Except, unknown to humans, these animals were equally as intelligent and very aware of what they were doing.

Roberto was one such bird.

When he'd been bought by you after his original owners, he'd been fairly abused and mistreated, fearful and hateful towards humans until you'd shown him kindness. He's sure he could've escaped at any time... yet he hasn't. He isn't sure why.

You occasionally brought him to a bird sanctuary for him to socialise, and while there, the other birds would talk about how pretty and in love they were with humans!

He didn't get it! Humans weren't... why would they... birds were more attractive! And his opinion remained that way... until recently.

Mating season was around the corner, and the bird had started to try and court you. The worst part in Roberto's opinion was that he wasn't even being controlled by instinct to do this– he was willingly trying to seduce you.

He knew no human would ever be with a bird... but he could hope, right?

Flying to stand on your bed, Roberto watched you, moving closer, squawking to catch your attention.
