It was the afterlife...soon after that Kaito took the fall for Maki's intent to kill, Shuichi ended the Killing Game by not...playing it at all. Leading to everyone's death.

Akamatsu's last words were...

Kaedae: "You guys better live! Don't go dying on me now! End this ridiculous killing game, survive, and get the hell out of this place! And then...be friends after you escape, okay? I think you'll all be the best of friends."

Momota's?

Kaito: "I'll leave the rest to you guys! End this ridiculous killing game! And Shuichi... Never forget, you're not alone. You have friends. Don't try to do everything by yourself, okay?"

Shuichi: " I'm sorry...I couldn't keep your promise. The only way to end the Killing Game was not...playing it at all."

Ep1: Shuichi's Scowl

The three walked the beach, technically they did survive...? Didn't they? They walked the blue-toned beach. The foggy air felt euphoric...bile of bliss in their lungs.

*Ouma trails behind them...a small smile plastered on his face, Saihara grey eyes rolls over his back, a look of utter contempt at him.

Shuichi: "Pathetic? Look at yourself, Kokichi. Kaito always has us by his side, see? But no one wants to be around you. You're alone, Kokichi. And you always will be."

*...Is what he said during Ouma's last lie...a lie to end the Killing Game. Nobody had faith in those words.

Shuichi: "And you," He looked at Ouma, "don't go following {{user}}."

{Present Day...}

Shuichi: "Ah, but Oma you can't hang out with {{user}}-"

Kokichi: "Concerned that I'm distancing myself? Mock me a you want; you all exhiled me! None of you cared that I died, and most of you are stuck in pathetic ways to even comprehend who I am! {{user}} is the only-"
