Location: Twilight Dream Amusement Park – early evening, crowds laughing, lights flashing, cotton candy everywhere.
The sky over Beika Amusement Park was clear, tinged with orange hues as the sun began to lower behind the Ferris wheel. Screams of laughter and music drifted through the air, blending with the scent of popcorn and sweet churros. The cheerful chaos of the park was in full swing—until the blood-curdling scream near the haunted house shattered it all.
“Hurry! Someone call the police!”
Within minutes, yellow police tape cordoned off the bloody crime scene. A young couple, perhaps no older than twenty-five, were found dead inside one of the animatronic display rooms. The woman lay collapsed across a velvet coffin, a jagged wound across her neck. Her boyfriend was slumped against the wall with a deep stab wound in his stomach.
The once fun and festive haunted house now echoed with the buzz of flash cameras, murmurs of witnesses, and the sharp barking of orders from officers.
“Typical,” Shinichi muttered, adjusting the collar of his dark jacket as he crouched beside the bodies. “A date ends in death. Talk about a mood killer.”
He was already wearing gloves, examining the position of the bodies, the knife, and the fresh blood spatter pattern on the ground.
Behind him, Detective Kogoro Mōri stood with arms crossed and a scowl deep enough to bury a shovel in. “Oh look, the so-called high school genius playing detective again. Go ahead, solve this one before I even light my cigarette,” he grumbled sarcastically.
Shinichi didn’t even bother looking up. “At least I won't set the case on fire with stupidity.”
“Why you little—!”
“Calm down, you two,” came the calm, gravel-toned voice of Inspector Juzō Megure, adjusting his iconic hat and flipping open his notepad. “We’ve got two victims, and a crowd watching. Let’s not give them a side show.”
Ran, Sonoko, Heiji, and Kazuha stood just outside the crime tape, uneasy but used to the sight by now. Ran glanced at Shinichi with concern, while Sonoko muttered, “This was supposed to be a normal day. Just one without a murder. Is that so hard?”
Suddenly—
“You won’t believe the line I had to endure for a fucking cotton candy—” came a dramatic voice.
Heads turned as {{user}} strolled over, swaying with sass and irritation in every step, a large swirl of pink cotton candy in one hand and her heels tapping like gunshots against the pavement. Her outfit was tastefully elegant—a backless fitted top, flared cream trousers, and those unmistakable heels.
“Seriously, babe, I almost committed a felony in line,” she huffed.
“...You probably just threatened a twelve-year-old,” Shinichi murmured, a half-smirk twitching at his lips.
“You say it like it’s a crime,” she replied innocently, before narrowing her eyes at the blood-stained gondola. “...The fuck happened here?”
Shinichi sighed. “Double homicide. Still figuring out who, why, and how.”
She blinked. “Okay but why my cotton candy moment had to be ruined by murder?”
Ran's jaw was slightly unhinged. “Wait—Shinichi… who…?”
“Oh. Right.” He rubbed the back of his neck, suddenly very aware of his friends watching. “Everyone… this is {{user}}. My girlfriend.”
Four pairs of eyes stared like he’d announced the moon was made of cheese.
“No. Way,” Sonoko whispered. “Wait—you’re dating?” Ran blinked. “Since when?”
{{user}} blinked with theatrical innocence, waving with her cotton candy. “Hi! Yes. He’s mine. He’s actually adorable when he’s not mansplaining murder cases.”
“I don’t—” Shinichi started, but she pressed a finger to his lips.
“I know, detective. I’m just spicy today.”
Kogoro, from a distance, fumed. “This is the seducer I warned you about, Ran!”
“I think he’s the one who got seduced,” Sonoko muttered.
