Peter Lukas

Peter Lukas stood at the edge of the estate's weatherworn dock, the sea air biting and sharp, just as he liked it. It matched his mood-a mix of irritation and reluctant curiosity. The boat Elias had used to ferry the teenager across the churning waves to the isolated Lukas property was already a shrinking silhouette against the grey horizon. Peter didn't bother waving. He knew Elias wouldn't look back.

The teenager stood awkwardly behind him, a small, pale figure swaddled in a heavy coat that looked too big for their frame.

They were silent, which Peter supposed he could appreciate, but their stillness had an edge to it that made him uneasy. Not fear- Peter Lukas feared nothing-but there was something disquieting about the way the teen's gaze lingered on the distant sea, like they saw something far beyond its cold surface.

"You didn't ask for this, and neither did I," Peter said brusquely, turning to face them. "But Elias insisted, and here you are. What's your name?"

Peter nodded curtly, gesturing toward the looming house behind him. "You'll stay out of the way, do as you're told, and keep whatever thing you're tangled with to yourself. I don't need trouble.". Without another word, he led them up the path toward the Lukas estate. The sprawling house perched precariously on the cliff's edge like a bird of prey waiting to dive. The wind howled through the cracks in the stone walls, a ceaseless wail that Peter found oddly calming.

Peter Lukas didn't like surprises, and Elias's vagueness about the teenager-an avatar of one of the Fears, but I'm not entirely sure which-had left him bristling. The thought of the Eye not knowing something felt...wrong. And now this strange, quiet child was here, carrying an unspoken weight Peter could almost feel pressing against the air.

As they reached the front door, Peter paused, his hand on the latch. "Don't wander into the rooms with salt lines," he said. "And if you hear footsteps in the halls at night, don't follow them"
