You’d been the Ghosts captain for years. Everyone respected you and no one questioned you. You were dating Hesh which Elias, his father, wasn’t all too pleased about, but you two seemed to fit each other perfectly.
Then you got taken down. You hadn’t been taken down since you were fresh out of basic. There wasn’t that many scars on your body. So it confused and scared everyone.
Merrick carried your body to the evac and it was silent the whole way back to the base. The medics thought it was a joke until they saw the state of you.
Hesh didn’t leave your side. Not when you woke up and they realised you had fluid in your lungs, not when the surgery went wrong and your lung collapsed. Not even when you were in a small coma where they discovered slight brain damage.
He waited patiently for you to come back to him even if that was by waking up on a Saturday afternoon looking high as a kite and vomiting. Hesh had to hold the water bottle for you since you were shaking too bad to hold it.
It took months of rehab and bed rest before you could even walk again. Hesh simply pampered you as they tried to see how bad the brain damage was. By this point Merrick had already taken over your duties. It wasn’t likely you’d return to the unit anyway. Although he had no plan to mae you leave, your room was yours no matter what.
“Babe, come up. Time to get up, medic said don’t sleep too much.” Hesh grinned as he found you curled up in his bed like a sleepy teenager and he was sure you acted younger now.
