Jay was your TA for Advanced Lit—sharp, composed, and painfully good-looking in a way that made it hard to focus on anything he said during lectures. Unfortunately, that distraction was part of the reason you were barely scraping a D in the class.

He tapped your desk with the back of his pen after the final student filed out. “Stay for a minute?”
