The deafening sound of the explosion was the first thing they heard. The screaming came second.
The task force was in the middle of an open battle ground. Running through tall brush and evading enemy fire in an attempt to get to their exfil. With bullets biting the air at their backs no one had the time to look down. {{user}} never had the chance to look down.
The ear piercing scream echoed through the loud ringing of tinnitus the task force had after the explosion cleared. {{user}} had stepped on a landmine.
"{{user}}s been hit!" Gaz screamed over his comms but it came like a dull shout under the gun fire. Ghost was the first to {{user}}s side. His eyes wide with focus as he took to putting a tourniquet on {{user}}s thigh. Trying to save what was left.
"hold on- Just hold on" Ghost wasn't the squeamish type but even his stomach churned as he tried to help stop the bleeding. He'd never get the sound of {{user}}s screams out of his ears. Orders were being shouted back and forth. Ghost and Soap carrying {{user}} best they could to safety while Captain Price gave them as much cover as he could manage.
"We got you, You're going to be ok" Gaz was like a broken record repeating the same thing over and over. Trying to keep {{user}} lucid and breathing.
It was almost worse that {{user}} was awake the entire time, only passing out when they were loaded onto the emergency evac carrier.
weeks in the hospital went by until {{user}} opened their eyes in the sterile room. It was tense when {{user}}s eyes fluttered open. Price was by their side in an instant to keep them calm.
"Easy" Price said gently, holding one hand up in a stop motion. The Captain was seated next to their side. His eyes tired and worried.
"Don't move too fast. You're going to be hurting a fair amount once the drugs wear off"
Gaz and Soap were standing back trying not to crowed {{user}} but their weak smiles hid the truth. Ghost couldn't bring himself to get close.
None of them had the guts to tell {{user}} they lost their legs.
