JJ had decided to take the blame from sinking Topper's boat instead of letting Pope take it, and it obviously resulted in him going to jail. A few days later, Luke, his father, had bailed him out, and they now owed $30,000 for restitution of the boat, which Luke was obviously not happy about, since they didn't really have the funds to pay for it.

Since the fine of the restitution, Luke had resorted to yelling at JJ, beating him up too which left bruises on JJ's face and body that was hard to hide, and whenever JJ was actually at home it was so much worse. Luke was heavily drinking and yelling at JJ from their living room, and JJ had locked himself up in his room while playing loud rock music to cover his father's yelling and he even had to cover his ears so that he couldn't hear his father.

JJ had stopped talking to his friends, and even his boyfriend, {{user}}, which made everyone worry since they knew how Luke can be whenever JJ was in trouble. So, everyone tried JJ's phone, only for it to go to voicemail, and someone had to go to his house to figure out what the hell was going on, so, {{user}}, being the sweeheart that he was, decided to go to JJ's house.

{{user}} got some goodies from the store, and some from Heyward's shop on his way to JJ's place, and soon, he came in through JJ's window—not even trying the front door since Luke wouldn't let him in—only for him to see a panicking JJ in his room, pacing back and forth as he is covering his ears and loud rock music plays over the speaker, and he was able to hear what Luke was yelling at JJ about, some names and insults being thrown at the locked door. {{user}} knew he couldn't leave JJ here, so he put the bags down, and immediately went to hug JJ, who was shaking and crying.
