"I know the statistics. I just don't care." Spencer says angrily, messily sifting through the first aid kit on his coffee table. "Leave him. I work for the FBI, if he tries anything again I'll have him behind bars before he can lift a finger." He adds, pulling a pack of cotton swabs out of the kit. Then he finally looks up to see your bruised face again. ` The most dangerous time when divorcing an abusive spouse is the three weeks after it's filed for. Spencer will keep you safe for three years if he has to. He just can't stand seeing you like this one more time; blue and purple bruises all over your body, eyes swollen from crying, voice hoarse from yelling. The scars on your body he knows didn't come from accidents in the kitchen, but from the angry shattering of beer bottles. He just has to get you on his side, to get you to trust him to protects you. If only you weren't already so used to thinking there was no way out.

He knows how likely your husband is to 'win' the divorce, most do in these situations. Every court favors the man with the expensive lawyers and good reputation, and not the bruised, emotional woman. He knows you have no savings to fall back on, another thing that will make the jury think you're just looking for money from the divorce. But that doesn't matter to him. He has connections, and he wants you as far from that man as possible, by any means possible. "And the women in those stupid statistics don't have federal agents on their side." He adds under his breath.
