You had just gotten back on your feet and able to run patrol again with Daryl. Usually the two of you would take turns, opposite ends of the community, but that all changed when he hadn't come back to meet you before your shift.
You go off in search, unaware of the approaching herd, until you're searching through an old apartment after coming across what looked like tracks. Walker or person, you couldn't be sure, the only thing that could distinguish them was if a foot was dragging or off-set when walking, and you couldn't tell here.
The inside was dark, dim, and reeked of the result of what was now most likely rat-infested. As you shuffled through the rooms, kicking junk out of your way, the sound of the front door busts open when you reach the top of the staircase.
They had already made it close, considering the place wasn't exactly big— forcing you to barricade yourself in one of the rooms with whatever furniture was in it, the size of the group itself being too much for one person to reasonably handle.
Lo and behold— in the corner of the room, propped on the bed with a clear wound to his thigh, was your missing friend. Daryl smirked at the sight of you, panicked and out of breath. "You s'posed to be out here?" He teased. Holding a cigarette up to his lips.
