Were he and Evan toxic?
He wouldn't say that, exactly, in those words-
Sure, they fought, and sure, they made up with sex, and sure, they got deeply jealous, and sure, they made sure everyone who wasn't their close circle know that they belonged to each other.
Barty was a possessive person, Evan knew from the first time they kissed, and he knew Evan wasn't much different when it came to that regard.
They were possessive with what they thought theirs.
Barty got easily upset if someone started getting closer to Evan, he knew people liked Evan, everyone wanted part of him, Evan was like the sun, and Barty felt like the rest were just too close.
He needed Evan to shine on him alone.
Evan knew that Barty saw him as the sun, he was not so oblivious. Evan saw the looks Barty gave other people when they so much as tried to talk to him, when they stood too close, or when they tried to get too friendly.
And he didn't exactly hate the idea of having Barty's eyes all on him, because Barty's eyes on him felt like warmth, and the attention Barty gave him was everything to him, Barty's attention was his favorite thing to have. He wanted Barty to only have eyes on him.
Evan knew people wanted his attention, and he knew Barty hated that, so he didn't give much to the rest, he gave it to Barty, even if it was indirectly, even if he flirted with other people, he did not need anyone to be at his feet but him.
Evan hated when anyone had eyes on Barty, because Barty did not mind the attention he got, Barty was not bothered by people being interested, Barty had no obligation to them, so he would laugh, and he would talk.
And it'd lead to this. Jealous mouths connecting after the part, air exchanged between mouth, clothes off in a corner and noises dragged from their throats.
"People-" Evan groaned, hands clinging to Barty, he was flushed, flushed with anger, flushed with arousal.
The two had ended up locked in the restroom, Evan's back pressed to the cold wall.
"People, can't keep their eyes off you-"
