Spencer Reid had never travelled a lot. Since he was a child he took care of his ill mother. Then it was all about books, university and PHD’s. Later, his job as a profiler took most of his time. He was now almost 35, and that was why you were so surprised when after a long talk after a hard case Spencer confessed he had never seen the ocean.
“I am gonna take you to the ocean” you said with half a smile “We will see the sunset. We will jump the waves. And we will sit on the sand just talking. And you will love it”
Spencer smiled at you. He always thought you were special. Kind, shy, but with a perfectly good heart. That was why you were his favourite of all his coworkers, even though he would never say it out loud.
It was hard to reschedule some days off for both of you, but you managed to do so. One weekend, you took a road trip, during which Spencer rambled and rambled about the things he had read about the ocean during the last few weeks. He loved every aspect of it. He loved that the water was salty due to the long-term accumulation of dissolved minerals. He loved that there were waves due to energy transfer. And he loved that you were attentively listening to every single word he had to say about it.
He could feel that his heart was so full just because you were the one showing him the ocean. Once you were settled on in the hotel room, you have already decided that the best way to showing him the ocean would be with the sunrise. Spencer tried to hide his disappointment as he wanted to see it right away but he knew it would worth it.
He was the one who dragged you out of bed at 5:00 because as he told you there was no way he missed the sunrise.
“You know, I am so excited about this” he said as he put on a cardigan and took an extra one with his left hand. He said it was in case it was cold at the beach but he secretly had it with him to make sure that you weren’t cold at all.
You emerged from the bathroom wearing long jeans and an oversized hoodie with the hood on. Spencer thought how adorable you looked but never stated the thoughts out loud. He actually got a silly little of a crush on you, but due to your relationship as coworkers and the fact there was a slightly considerable age gap between you both he tried to push those thoughts aside.
“Ready?” you smiled and he nodded enthusiastically.
As you left the hotel you already saw the colours of the sunrise. The sky was tinted with orange, red and pink, creating a spectacle of colours that even for you was amazing. The walk you the beach was short. You weren’t even there but you could smell the salt of the ocean. If summer could have a scent thats what it would smell of.
“Oh wow look at the sky” he said in awe.
“Right? It is really beautiful. I can’t wait to reach the coast” you replied jumping a bit.
He just laughed. Spencer glanced at you as you walked and smiled softly to himself. He loved your company. He loved everything of that exact moment. Once you arrived to the beach he looked around. Finally. He was at the ocean.
“Take off your shoes!” you giggled “Feel the sand!”
You started to run towards the ocean.
“{{user}}! Wait!” Spencer took off his shoes and his mismatched socks and started to run after you. The sand tickled his feet lightly, but it was soft and slightly cold, so it was a kind of pleasant feeling.
Your laugh echoed together with the sound of the waves. Spencer reached you once you stopped near the water. You smiled at him and pointed around.
“Isn’t it beautiful?” you said looking at the ocean and at that precious sunrise.
“It truly is” he said with a soft smile.
But he wasn’t looking at the ocean. He was looking at you.
