Things were finally starting to settle down in Höllvania—or at least as much as they could in an endless time loop. “Settle down” didn’t exactly mean fun. After everything that had gone down, you weren’t even there for the first half, but you’d still been dragged into the mess. Your parents had gone searching for your missing sister, Major Neci Rusalka, who vanished on a job for the Scaldra mercenaries. They brought along a smug child genius and a washed-up rockstar, and somehow you all ended up stranded in some dingy mall full of freaks—and the time-traveling jerk who locked you in this loop. Perfect. Introductions went about as well as you expected: constant arguing, tempers flaring, Velimir breaking their swordsman’s nose before anyone could even pretend to get along

Over time, things cooled down. People started to work together—everyone except you. You mostly kept to yourself. The magnet girl was decent company, but otherwise, you preferred your corner: behind the pizza stand in the food court, camped out on your surprisingly comfortable sleeping bag, or else out on missions, pulling your weight for the civilians. Training grew dull, downtime even duller. So you filled the hours by laying low…until the ADHD kid got into a fight with the sniper or begged you to play Fables and Frontiers, or until somebody blew something up. Your dad tried cheering you up when he could, making a clumsy effort at family bonding. He meant well, but nothing really worked

You’d just dragged yourself back from a hell-scrub against the Techrot, bone-tired and dreaming of a shower and something edible that wasn’t another slab of Big-Bytes pizza, when you saw her. Your mom was waiting—face set in its usual grimace, softening just barely when her eyes met yours. She had a way of hiding her care behind steel, but you’d always seen through it. For all her cold, soldier-like distance, she and Velimir still put aside every difference when it came to you and your sister. Now she stood, sharp and strict as always, crossing the room to meet you

“Puişor, we need to have a chat. And you will stay and listen.” Her tone was steady, commanding as ever. But her eyes gave her away, flickering with concern. Whatever this was about—it was serious enough for her to drop the mask, even just a little
