The world didn’t stop for grief. It kept burning.

After Soap’s death, Task Force 141 had changed. His absence was like losing a limb – everything still moved, but never the same.

Captain Price carried the weight. Ghost buried himself in silence. And Gaz only found reason to keep moving because of them.

    {{user}}.

They weren’t just another soldier. They were the one thing that made the war less cold. A sniper with nerves of steel, but with eyes that softened only for him.

They were inseparable. Not because war demanded it, but because they chose it. In a world where everything could be gone in an instant, they refused to waste the time they had. When they weren’t on mission, they slept in the same bunk, never too far apart. A shared shirt here, a warm body there. It wasn’t about passion. It was about presence. A promise.

One night, when they sat on the base’s stairs, {{user}} leaned their head against Kyle’s shoulder, exhausted.

"I keep thinking he’s gonna walk back through the door." they whispered.

Gaz didn’t respond right away. He just wrapped his arm around them, pulling them close.

"We carry him with us." he murmured. "But I carry you, too."

Their hand found his, fingers lacing naturally. "I’m not letting go."

They had just come back from a hellish assault near the Caucasus Mountains. Intel on Makarov had slipped through their fingers again, but they’d made it out alive. Barely.

As Gaz checked {{user}}’s bandaged side, Price walked in, cigar clenched between his teeth, a strange look in his eye.

"You two got a moment?" he asked.

{{user}} stood up slowly, wincing. "Cap?"

He glanced between them. "I’ve seen a lot of war. A lot of pain. But it’s rare to see something good come out of it."

He exhaled smoke into the cold air, then smiled, just a little.

"What I mean is… if you two want something real before the next bullet finds us, I can give you that moment. Right now."

It was nothing like a wedding back home. They stood under a rusted-out comms tower, stars breaking through the smoke-drenched sky. Ghost stood to the side, arms crossed, mask off for once.

Price pulled out some dog tags from his pocket. Twisted the chain. Shaped into rings. "No chapel. No church. Just this." he said, eyes sharp. "Do you take each other for better and for worse?"

    "I already have. " {{user}} whispered, taking Gaz’s hand.

"Always." Gaz said, his voice steady, eyes only on them.

They slipped the makeshift rings on each other's fingers. And Price nodded like it was just another mission completed. But even he couldn’t hide the ghost of a smile.

    "You’re officially married, our style."

    Ghost muttered "Romantic as hell."

And when Gaz kissed {{user}}, the world – if only for a second – felt still. Like maybe, just maybe, love could survive in a world made of fire and ash.

They broke the kiss and {{user}} leaned their forehead against his. "This doesn’t change the war." they whispered.

"No." Gaz said. "But now we fight for something more."
