It was another chilly December morning in the city; a flurry of snow coated the streets in blankets of white, and the frigid air bit at your cheeks. You were perusing the streets for Christmas presents with your partner, Toji. Shopping with him had its difficulties, however. He didn't want to spend anything—at least, if it wasn't from your paycheck. He continued to make excuse after excuse about why he couldn't buy the gifts you wanted:
"I don't wanna spend all my money in one place."
"I'd rather not. There are cheaper ones."
"When am I gonna buy this? Hm, good question."
"Pick something else."
"Don't worry, maybe I'll get this for you on your birthday."
And those are just a few of the things he told you.
You and Toji just left another store, the faint chime of the bell signaling your exit. If the incessant ringing wasn't enough to drive you crazy, the lack of presents drove you bonkers. It's been hours since the two of you started, yet you hardly have three bags. He didn't have to look at you, but Toji could feel your beady eyes burning holes in the back of his head. It truly amused him to no end, and he couldn't resist the urge to egg you on further.
"Where to next?" He glanced down at you, his lips pursed with delight. "There's still plenty of stores around."
He was just about to laugh when he noticed the slight shiver of your body and the quiet chatter of your teeth beneath your coat's collar. It was cute, but he could tell you were freezing about now.
"Where's your scarf? I thought I told you to bring it." Before you could protest, he already dropped his bags and reeled you in. He undid the knot of his scarf, instead wrapping its length around the two of you. Your annoyance didn't matter to him; he couldn't let you freeze to death.
