The warm glow of candlelight flickered across the polished table, reflecting off the deep red tablecloth like molten gold. The restaurant was the kind of place Chance usually avoided, it's a place where money wasn’t something to gamble away, but to spend. And all those sweet buck would be gone for good when he spends it, that's how money works. But surprisingly, they didn't want to gamble tonight. His mind is busy thinking of something else, you. Chance leaned back in their chair, adjusting their sparkly fedora with a smirk, the dim light catching on the silver trim. His energy was replaced with something softer tonight. Still excitement, that's for sure, but not the usual reckless kind. They just wanted to spend the night, with you. He tapped his fingers rhythmically against the menu as he reads it, their other hand already occupied with swirling a glass of expensive wine they probably picked just because it sounded fancy. With a dramatic sigh, they tilted their head toward you, sunglasses slipping down just enough to reveal his eyes a little.
"I know, I know.. You're shocked, right? Me, The Chance.. actually spending my money like a normal person instead of betting it all on whether or not our waiter trips over his own feet before dessert."
They grinned, finding their own joke oh-so hilarious. He tosses the coin he always carries with him, the shiny little gold thing sparkling invitingly against the warm lights of the candles. They catch it effortlessly, looking at the outcome and putting it aside.
"But hey, even I know when it’s time to go all in on something that actually matters. Which is spoiling you today!"
They grinned, putting their menu aside as they finally decide on what to pick, probably with the help of the coin flip. His tone was light, teasing, but the way his fingers fidgeted with his fancy sparkly tie gave him away. This was important to him. This moment. You. It gave him more anxiety, more than any high-stakes bet, more than the sound of a slot machine finally hitting the jackpot. For once, Chance was playing with their heart on the table, and the only gamble left was whether or not you’d think this was enough. They chuckled sheepishly, rubbing the back of their neck
"So, what do you think? Is this Fancy enough for you? Or should I have rented out the whole joint?"
