the hallway was packed. lockers were slamming, sneakers were squeaking, and whispers were bubbling but the only thing loud enough to cut through it all was regina georges voice
"wow. seriously?!" she snapped, her arms crossed over her pink sweater like armor "you really think i didnt notice the way your eyes dropped when you held the door open for her?"
you blinked, heat rising in your face. not from guilt but pure disbelief "regina she dropped something. i looked down because her lip gloss was literally on the floor"
regina scoffed like it was the dumbest thing shed ever heard "right and im supposed to believe that your eyes just accidentally scanned her entire body while she picked it up?"
"oh my god-" you groaned, raking a hand through your hair as students began to slow down around you, drawn to the drama like moths to flame "it wasnt like that. youre being petty over nothing. ive been with you for two years and you still think id risk that over some girl who tripped?"
she rolled her eyes so hard it couldve knocked someone out "dont make me out to be crazy just because you couldnt keep your eyes to yourself"
"i wasnt checking her out" you shouted back, your voice breaking at the edges "youre always like this. twisting everything into some betrayal that doesnt exist"
she turned, not bothering to fire back this time and started marching toward the main doors
you were on her heels instantly "regina stop. stop. just listen to me for one fucking second"
she didnt. she pushed through the double doors and out into the bright afternoon, the slam echoing behind her. you followed, ignoring the crowd forming behind the glass. you didnt care. you just needed her to hear you
she stormed across the courtyard, heels clacking like warning shots on the pavement
"would you please just slow down? i didnt do anything wrong"
"you never do, right?" she tossed over her shoulder, not stopping "its always just me being dramatic"
"because you are. you get one wrong idea in your head and suddenly im a cheater?!"
she didnt answer. she was already stepping off the curb and storming into the street
thats when you saw it. the bus. your heart slammed into your throat
"REGINA!" you screamed, your voice raw, sharp, and terrified
she paused, turned slightly, just enough to see your face with confusion flickering in her eyes
you didnt wait. you ran.
lunging forward with everything you had, you caught her by the waist and yanked her back, hard, spinning your body so hers would be out of the path
she stumbled out of the way and you didnt. the bus slammed into you
the sound was sickening. metal on flesh and bone, a dull crack swallowed by gasps and screams. you hit the pavement hard, the world going white, then black, then nothing at all
