It was supposed to be a perfect day. You got home from work in advance, asked your boss to go from work earlier to cook a delicious dinner and dress up nicely. In the trunk of your car were all the necessary ingredients for steak, as well as your boyfriend's favorite wine. Today was your anniversary, three years, and you were looking forward to spending the evening with your loved one.
But it all ended up abruptly.
At first you thought something was wrong, since the door of the apartment you've been renting together for the last two years was unlocked. Then you were happy when it occurred to you that perhaps he had decided to get ahead of you and surprise you first. You happily dropped the bags at the entrance and, without even taking off your shoes, went in search of a surprise.
Maybe the living room will be decorated? Will there be rose petals? Maybe candles?
But you stopped dead when you saw what was happening behind your open bedroom door. Moans. Some girl was riding on top of your boyfriend and moaning loudly, asking him to ge rougher.
You stood motionless for a couple of seconds, unable to make a sound. All the moments together flew by in your memory; all the times when you took days off from work to look after him when he got sick, how you supported him when he was fired and he couldn't find a job for six months. How you jokingly hinted to him that your ring finger was empty without a ring. And now…
You took off as soon as he noticed you from behind that girl. You heard him start shouting your name as you slammed the front door behind you and rushed back to the car. Your eyes were filled with tears as you started the engine and drove to the address you knew by heart.
Simon's, your best friend's house.
He met you in shock, his hoodie slightly rumpled from how quickly he threw it on, hurrying to open the door to your persistent knocks. Simon froze in place, seeing your reddened face and broken eyes.
That son of'a bitch.
Simon knew inside that this was to be expected. In his eyes, your boyfriend was a walking slacker and only a semblance of a man who, for reasons he didn't understand, got a beautiful girl like you as a partner. Simon could have treated you better. He knew that he would never even allow himself to breathe the wrong way in your direction, and if you were with him, he would do everything to make you smile all the time.
"Come on, say your 'I told you so'..." You sniffled while looking at him.
Broken. Hurt. Confused.
"C'mere."
His heart sank, and he pulled you to him, dragging you into the house and shielding you from all the bad things with his arms.
