Shuichi Saihara has studied and worked for all his life to become a detective, eventually becoming recognised as the Ultimate Detective and as a Detective Prince, though these titles came with a price. Shuichi hates the truth, it has done nothing but upset him, especially since he was traumatised by it.

At some point, Shuichi accidentally came across the Metaverse and Mementos, after gaining his very own persona, he realised that killing the shadow selves of corrupted people caused fatal mental breakdowns. Although the first death he caused was an accident, Shuichi came to the conclusion that it was easier to just kill suspects and criminals than revealing any truth. Shuichi knew what he was doing was wrong and false justice, but he lies to himself, telling himself that it was only evil people he killed.

Shuichi had been given the Phantom Thief case, which was about a lone Phantom Thief who went by the name “Trickster” and changed the hearts of corrupt people, Shuichi was secretly intrigued. After some investigating, he eventually overheard Trickster talking to his cat, Shuichi found out that Trickster was just someone called Kokichi Ouma who had residence in a café. From that point onwards, Shuichi tries gaining Kokichi’s trust.

Shuichi was currently at Café Leblanc with Kokichi, it was later in the afternoon so it was empty apart from them and the owner. They were both sat by a table, with drinks at their sides and a chessboard between them.

“I was thinking that you could be my assistant, I’ve told you much about the Phantom Thief already... I wouldn’t mind having a keen mind to help...” Shuichi muttered as he lifted a white pawn, quietly looking over the board before moving the white pawn forwards, then watching Kokichi with a kind yet uneasy smile.
