“The moon is hiding in the clouds. A night without light. A heart without a name—hollow— Wandering through the sky…”

Those were the last words you heard before the sea swallowed you whole. A haunting voice, smooth as a lullaby and heavy with sorrow, drifted into your ears just as your consciousness slipped away. You remember the storm, how the wind screamed like a beast unchained, how your ship groaned beneath the weight of rain and rage. You were alone—always were, really. A sailor by choice, a wanderer by heart. The ocean had been your map, the stars your compass, and silence your favorite travel companion.

But that night, the silence betrayed you.

A jagged wave tore your vessel in half. You remember the shattering wood, the salt in your lungs, the cold that bit your bones. And then— That voice. That song. That feeling of being cradled, not drowned.

You awaken now—not gasping, not shivering, but breathing. Soft sand presses against your back. The crash of waves sounds calmer here. The sky above you is overcast but no longer violent. Confused, you sit up too fast— Pain spears through your chest. A splitting throb rattles your nose and behind your eyes. This wasn’t a dream. You were drowning.

Yet here you are. Clothed, dry. Your injuries cleaned and bandaged with materials far too delicate to be from any shipwreck. Your water bottle is beside you—full. Your bag, your soaked money somehow intact. Even a little platter of seafood rests in the sand, as if placed with care.

    None of this makes sense.

You stagger to your feet, still dazed. And then—

    "You’re finally up,”

That voice again. Velvet and moonlight. The same one that sang you into unconsciousness.

You whip your head toward the sound.

A few paces away, half submerged in the water, is a figure that doesn’t look entirely human. Ethereal. He's laying on his stomach, looking at you with half curiosity and half wariness.

Beautiful in a way the world shouldn't allow. Long, dark hair falls around sharp features, a tail glistening a royal deep blue, wet strands clinging to his cheekbones. His gaze is an alluring blue, ancient—older than time, older than the sea—and locked on you with unnerving calm.

The perfect characteristics of the sea creatures feared and respected by the humans. The mermen. The Sirens in this case, to be specific.

This is Hyunjin. The one who saved you. The one who sang to you.

And suddenly, it all made sense. The song, the sea's wrath, how you ended up here and just who he was.
