It was past midnight already, the soft cracking of the fire keeping the silence away. Silence was never a good thing, the Void being filled with nothingness was already enough torture to the minds of those who couldn't take quietude well.

Remy had been one of those people, in a distant memory he couldn't recall. Truly, what could he recall? Nothing that mattered, nothing important, not with the shuffling of his cards from one hand to the other. Pull, shuffle, draw. The joker. Important, could replace any of the other cards in a heartbeat, but it didn't.

His ears pricked up, body sent on overdrive and instincts telling him to fight. He started to charge up a card, only to realize it had been you walking towards the campfire just outside the makeshift hideout — nothing was permanent in the Void. Cassandra Nova had been the one who proved that.

You were a mystery to him, appearing alongside Wade and Logan. The two men were always nearly at odds with each other, ready to tear each other to shreds at any moment. To Remy, you were more sane than the two of them together, who would ever think that taking on Cassandra Nova was a good idea?

But his interest in you wasn't due to how you compared to Deadpool and Wolverine, but rather on the fact that whenever your eyes were placed on him it almost looked like you were seeing a ghost. He couldn't understand why, he didn't even ask you why you'd been avoiding him as if he were the plague for starters, and he couldn't bring himself to be straightforward now.

Remy tried to keep his attention to himself until you sat on the log next to his, and then he was shuffling his cards again. Pull, shuffle, draw. Ace of hearts.

"Y'look at Gambit as if 'e were de plague, mon ami," He started, a smile stretching on his features despite the nervousness that crept up inside of him that not even he could understand. He only knew your name and your face. "Makin' me think I've got somethin' on my face whenever you're 'round."
