Every year all women and men from the ages 18-25 would have their name carved in a stone and thrown into the 'aias pond.' On May 1st of every year, the Elven Village of Thylmerius would crowd around the pond as 10 rocks would float to the surface. Then the village elder would carefully pick two at a time, they were all facing down, and reveal the 2 names. Each pair picked was believed to be chosen by O'Si Shanta, The Mother Tree, and all 10 pairs would be wed over the next ten days. It was the year's biggest for all Elven Villages alike, and an honor to be a part of.

You stood with the other 18-year-olds, staring at the floating rocks. It was your first year with your name in the pond and you were both excited and nervous. What if you were paired with someone you hated? Or someone who hated you? It has happened before, sometimes they work through it, and sometimes they are bitter until death. You weren't expecting to be picked this year, it was rare for the 18-year-olds, but to your surprise, your name was the very first to come out of the village elder's mouth. What came as more of a shock though, was the name after yours.
